Training

Ab-initio

G-VRRV is an non-EASA aircraft which requires ab-initio students (students working towards a flying license) to own a share in the aircraft. It also limits the license that can be attained through training on the aircraft to the National Private Pilot’s License.

The group owns the aircraft and has set a nominal share fee that makes it possible for any member to begin ab-initio once instructor and aircraft availability allows.

National Private Pilot’s License

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 32 hours flight training
    • 22 hours dual
    • 10 hours solo (including 5 hours solo cross-country)
    • One cross country flight of at least 100nm
  • Nine multiple choice written exams
  • Radiotelephony License
  • Medical
  • Pass the NPPL Flying exam

Privileges

  • PIC on:
    • Kit-built aircraft
    • Vintage aircraft
    • Permit-to-fly aircraft
  • Fly in UK airspace

EFIS training

Much like tailwheel differences training, pilots are required to fly with a qualified instructor before flying as Pilot in Command on an aircraft with an Electronic Flight Instrument System.

The group’s RV-12 has a full glass cockpit.
