The Southampton University Aviation Society (SUAS) was set up at the start of 2021 with the intention of creating a working group of individuals from the University of Southampton to maintain and operate the group’s collection of light aircraft.
Originally the society was based around the TLAC Sherwood Scout, bought in 2017 and built by members of the university. The Scout was in regular use since SUAS’s formation predominantly training members of the university.
The group has now upgraded its aircraft to an Van’s RV-12. The group now has several pilot’s qualified on type and five ab-initio pilots trained by three instructors. This allows the aircraft to be used for research, recreation and other tasks inside and outside of the university.
