At the end of April 2021, G-OUAV flew its first training flights with two students from the University of Southampton. The aircraft was used to provide tailwheel differences training for the two pilots who had previously flown nose-wheel aircraft. Tailwheel differences training typically consists of around 5 hours mainly covering the ground-handling during taxi, take-off and landing.
In June the second wave of training began with two academic staff beginning their training towards their National Private Pilot’s Licenses. Both staff members were involved in building the aircraft after it was acquired in 2017. Once complete, the pilot’s will be fully qualified to fly aircraft such as G-OUAV and other UK-registered vintage, permit-to-fly and kit-built aircraft.
